cover reprints a cropped version of "peter parker as.. spider-man" pin-up from
XXXXXXTHE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #1, 1964

disturbingly, the credits on the indicia page of this book read "cover and design
SHARON O'CONNOR" and no mention is made of either ditko having created the
drawing or its source. additionally, ditko's initials (evident on the pin-up in the
annual) have been removed from this reproduction.

ditko is briefly mentioned throughout the text in regard to heroes (but not villains)
he helped create or did significant work on: captain atom, dr. strange, the hulk,
iron man and spider-man. he is also mentioned for having been instrumental in the
creation of one of the "ten comics that shaped the genre" (spider-man, natch!).
